About Shinmai Moku
At Shinmai Moku, every detail is inspired by the warmth of wood, the glow of fire, and the artistry of Japanese hospitality. Named after the Japanese word moku (ζ¨), meaning wood, our concept celebrates the natural materials, thoughtful design, and binchotan charcoal that define the experience. From expertly grilled yakitori and shareable small plates to handcrafted cocktails and a welcoming atmosphere, Shinmai Moku invites guests to slow down, connect, and enjoy dining as it was meant to beβimmersive, social, and memorable.
Shinmai Moku is a japanese in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is listed at 1200 E Millbrook Rd Ste 126, Raleigh, NC 27609, which places it among the local businesses of Raleigh that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Raleigh, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across North Carolina run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Raleigh is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Raleigh is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across North Carolina's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I am SO excited that this restaurant opened up down the road from my house. It's not easy to find proper Japanese food in Raleigh but this place is stellar! We tried so many things and our favorites were: Dashimaki Tamago, Agedashi Tofu, Yakitori (beef especially), Plain Udon (dashi) and the Lion King Roll. The food had exceptional flavor and we truly enjoyed everything. They are awaiting their liquor license and in the meantime, the mocktails are inventive & delicious (Free Spirit Highball with Peach & Lychee was our fav). The ambiance is lovely for a date night (though I did take my kids and that was fine too) & the staff members were kind and informative. Shinmai Moku has only been open 12 days and they are off to an incredible start. Usually I wait months before I try a new restaurant because typically it's rocky in the beginning, but I'm glad I didn't wait with this one. I can't wait till the full menu is available so I can try everything!

Service from the staff was great. Ambience was amazing. The yakitoris with the tare did not taste like the tare was brushed on properly, it was a very light tare. I ordered the fried oysters plate. It was $12 for two oysters. The oyster I had wasn't fresh. That was my fault for not speaking up. When I walked in, FOH asked if we had a reservation, I said no. FOH said "you should have reserved with Rezzy." I feel like that was unnecessary, since there were seats available. I was charged a 2.8% credit card processing fee. You should disclose that or the business eats the cost. I shouldn't find out afterwards.

Iβve been waiting for this place to open up and it did not disappoint!! The yakitori skewers were absolutely the star of the show, with the chicken + green onion, bacon + asparagus, and miso eggplant skewers being our favorites. No liquor license yet, but as someone who loves a fun drink without alcohol, the mocktails were truly some of the best Iβve had, specifically the βlucky charmβ! Honorable mention goes to the tamago and moro-q, which I was excited to see repeated from Shinmai Shokudoβs menu. Everything came out super fast and the staff were all really sweet. In the future, I think it would be great to see some sort of continuous ordering option, like a flippable sign at the table, an iPad, or a stack of yakitori ordering sheets to allow guests to order slowly or easily order more. Iβm excited to see this restaurant get busy. :) and I will be back!!

We were there the 1st weekend of their soft opening. No restaurant is perfect in the first days of opening, but IMO they were close. Service was warm & inviting. The atmosphere is a cool, contemporary vibe that we so enjoyed. Food was delicious (homemade tofu??? WHAT! SOOO good). I suggest the mentaiko potato salad if u want to try something unexpected & delish. We tried most of the skewers & some small plates to share. Cant wait to try the hot pots when weather gets cooler. No liquor license yet, but their mocktails were great, many if them including fresh juices. I wish I had taken more pics, but to busy devouring every dish. Looking forward to next time as they tweak their menu to include more great surprises!

Another slam dunk from the Shinmai crew! (And this time, only like 10 minutes down the road!!) First *proper* Izakaya in the Triangle. Yakitori are amazing with a ton of unique options. Truly nothing goes to waste! Hamachi was really fresh and tender. Looking forward to trying to more of their sashimi and other seafood offerings. Sukiyaki crushed it. So much going on there, but all done so well. We will be back soon! Looking forward to the liquor license π
